How to Promote Themes, Plugins & Scripts on Social Media
Social media is a great place to promote your php scripts, themes, plugins, app code and other digital products. But they are some rules how to make this work. Every social network has it’s own rules, especially if it comes to promoting products.
One of the best places to sell digital products is on a digital marketplace like Codester. Codester can drive some good traffic to your item and you can get some sales without any other promotion. But if you really taking your business serious, you will have to start promoting your item outside the Codester marketplace.
Before uploading your item please be sure to read our guide on how to successfully submit your item to a digital marketplace.
Once your item is online, the best way to start promoting your item is using social media.
Be sure to create a Twitter account and a Facebook page and Google+ account. We also advice to use tools like Buffer to schedule your posts.
Day 1: The day your item is approved
Tweet three times about your item.
Schedule your tweets. Tweet once in the morning, once in the afternoon and once in the evening.
Be sure to not only tweet about your product, make sure 80% of your tweets are non-promotional. If you don’t tweet that often lower the number of tweets about your item.
When tweeting be sure to include a picture of your product. Tweets with pictures receive 90% more traffic then tweets without pictures.
Don’t only use the title of your item as your tweet. Go through the description of your item and find some good sentences about your product you can use as a tweet.
Use one or two hashtags in your tweet. Some example hashtags are:
- Themes: #theme #wordpress #joomla #magento #html #html5 #webdesign #webdev
- Plugins: #wordpress #joomla #magento #plugin
- PHP scripts: #php #php5
- App source code: #gamedev #appdev #mobiledev #indiedev
- Graphics: #gfx #webdesign #webdev

Only post your item once on Facebook. Codester supports Facebook meta data, so the preview image of your product should automaticly show up in your Facebook post. Add an introductional comment to your post.
