  Is there some simple control panel for editing the theme rather than looking inside the sql?

  Yes, you can edit the MyBB theme easily from the Admin Control Panel — no need to touch the SQL or database.
  
  Here’s how:
  
  Templates – These control how things are placed on the page (like the header, footer, and posts).
  Go to:
  Admin CP > Templates & Style > Templates > [Your Theme Name]
  There you can change parts of the forum layout.
  
  CSS (Styles) – This controls the colors, fonts, and sizes.
  Go to:
  Admin CP > Templates & Style > Themes > [Your Theme Name] > global.css
  Here you can change how your forum looks (like background color, text color, etc.).
  
  Quick changes – You can also change things like the forum logo or link colors in the same theme section.
  
  So yes — everything you need to edit your theme is in the Admin Panel.
  Templates = layout.
  CSS = design.
  No need to open the database.
