Apex – Construction WordPress Theme
Apex Roofing is a conversion-focused WordPress theme for roofing companies, contractors and const...Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Do I need a page builder like Elementor or WPBakery?
No. Apex is a classic PHP theme with fixed, pre-built sections. You edit content through normal WordPress screens and theme fields — no page builder is required, and none is bundled. This also keeps the front end fast and lightweight.
Which plugins do I need, and are they free?
All of them are free. The download includes the companion plugin "Apex Roofing Core", which registers the Services, Projects, Testimonials, Team and FAQ post types. From the WordPress repository you will also want Secure Custom Fields (the field engine), Contact Form 7 (quote forms) and One Click Demo Import (demo content). The theme prompts you to install them after activation.
Do I need ACF Pro?
No. The theme uses Secure Custom Fields, which is free. There is no premium field plugin dependency of any kind.
Can I get the site to look exactly like the live demo?
Yes. Install the theme and the companion plugin, activate One Click Demo Import, then run Appearance > Import Demo Data. Pages, menus, services, projects, testimonials, team, FAQ, the blog posts, the quote form and the demo images are all set up automatically in one click.
Are the demo images included in the download?
The photos are not bundled inside the theme file. They are downloaded automatically during the demo import. All demo photography comes from Pexels under its free license, so you may keep it or replace it with your own images at any time.
How does the before/after project gallery work?
Each project can have a "before" and an "after" image. On the project page the two are shown in a drag-to-compare slider: visitors drag the handle to reveal the finished roof. It works with mouse, touch and keyboard.
Can I change the logo, colors and contact details without touching code?
Yes. Logo, accent color, phone, email, address, working hours and the map embed are all edited in Appearance > Customize. Homepage hero texts, buttons and the form are edited as fields on the front page.
Does the theme work with the block editor (Gutenberg)?
Yes. Blog posts and regular pages use the standard block editor, with matching editor styles so the admin preview looks like the front end. The theme also registers custom block styles and a call-to-action block pattern.
Is the theme translation-ready? Does it support RTL languages?
Yes to both. Every string is translatable and a .pot file is included, so you can translate the theme with Loco Translate or Poedit. A complete right-to-left stylesheet ships with the theme and loads automatically for RTL languages.
Is a child theme included?
Yes. A ready-to-use child theme is in the download, so you can safely customize templates and styles without losing your changes when the theme is updated.
Is the theme responsive on phones and tablets?
Yes. The layout is mobile-first: the services, projects, team and testimonial sections turn into swipeable sliders on small screens, and the menu becomes an accessible burger menu with a dimmed overlay.
What are the server requirements?
WordPress 6.4 or newer (tested up to 7.0) and PHP 7.4 or newer. No special server modules are needed. The theme passes the official WordPress Theme Check plugin, and all output is escaped and sanitized.
Is it only for roofing companies?
No. The demo is a roofing company, but the structure — services with pricing, completed projects, team, testimonials, FAQ and a quote form — fits contractors, construction firms, renovation, remodeling, handyman and most local trade businesses. Change the content and colors and it reads as a different niche.
Can I reorder or remove the homepage sections?
Sections hide themselves automatically when they have no content — for example, if you add no projects, the projects section will not appear. Changing the order of the sections requires editing the homepage template, which is straightforward in the included child theme. There is no drag-and-drop section builder.
Does it include WooCommerce or a shop?
No. Apex is a lead-generation theme for service businesses and does not ship WooCommerce templates. WooCommerce can still be installed, but its pages will use the plugin's default styling rather than custom theme templates.
Will my content disappear if I switch to another theme later?
No. The post types live in the companion plugin, not in the theme, which is the recommended WordPress architecture. Your services, projects, testimonials, team members and FAQ entries stay in the database even if you change themes.
